Darren is what now??
This is not meant for emotional readers, you idiot gossipers and people who take things too seriously. GET OUT AND LEAVE NOW! Then again, these are just the lines I need to make you want to read this post. This is meant to be a joke with a mix and match between truth and tales for me to try out my new blogging approach. I’m not my regular self in this post but sort of the classic XiaXue. On to the ramblings…
I found a very pleasing subject for this post and it’s a friend who loves being a loser! Now..now, I have a valid point in saying that so read on.
The History
One time, during one stressing afternoon back in high school, his class representative (me) said:
“Oh Darren, I forgot to (fucking) tell you that you’re representing our (fucking) class for the (fucking) public speaking competition. Did I mention to you it’s this (fucking) afternoon? I’m sorry. But do get (fucking) ready, we need those (fucking) class points”
Darren was like…Who do you think we are? Gryffindor?! What the fuck do I care about class points!
But noooooo….back then Darren was a sweet pie! One who would do ANYTHING for people - except sleeping with seniors/juniors….especially of the same sex hahahaha the faggy hilarity!
What was messed up there? Well, he made a fool of himself in front of 150 audience. But you know what else? He pleased his class representative (me again) because he won and we got those points! There was just no competition. What were those losers thinking they could beat him? One of them even gave a cowardly excuse to chicken out earlier.
The Present
Six years later, Darren is this guy who I doubt could be successful. I know I sounded mean there but this guy loves losing! Every time he confronts a competitor (whether its in his studies, crazy game expos, business tenders and a whole lot more interest I never cared to remember), he automatically assumes they’re better than he is. Problem is…
He RARELY lose and it pisses him off a whole lot sometimes that I end up getting a call in the middle of the night trying to calm him down on WHY, WHY HAS HE NEVER MET SOMEONE HIS MATCH!
If I were an arrogant bitch, I’d say I’m that match. But honestly, I’m not. Who am I to compete with this talented asshole?
Anyways, at 3 a.m yesterday morning, someone was knocking my front door like hell was letting lose. When I opened that door, there’s this messed up dude who looked like he just wept a million tears with a Regal on one hand and a pack of beers on the other. It was Darren. That’s the first I met him in months! Turned out, he was just promoted to V.P in less than a year and is sad with it! WTH! Sad? Earning 200K a year is sad? Are you out of your mind?!!! Knowing him, I know it’s never about the money. Having to move up the ranks when he was just making real friends at his workplace is sad. Both of us never really liked elite people. We admire them, true, but preferred them? Never.
So I left him to sleep on the couch after making sure I kept the Regal deep inside my kitchen cupboard. The guy doesn’t drink much but when he does, bad things happen. It was around 9 am that I woke up and he was no longer on the couch or anywhere in the house. I tried to call him but no answer. The line was not even ringing.
He just disappeared. But that’s how he has always been. I know him well enough to not take it personally. Don’t know how his other pals sees him if he’s always missing in action like that. Probably he needed a timeout. Probably he needs to get away off his busy life..probably. Who knows, he might be in some room right now talking to investors on his next big idea or he might have quitted his job and went travelling around the world. The guy invented ‘confusing’.
You rarely get to meet a unique person you feel intimidated just by their presence. You rarely get to meet a Darren that is so unique you feel comfortable just by being around them. I’m glad I had that chance. The crazy things he made all of us friends do were unforgettable.
Few months from now perhaps, or soon I hope, I will wait for that phone call:
“Get everyone, let’s go somewhere”….this time I’m having my passport ready.
