Not for Me!
at least for now.Yesterday I attended a business opportunity talk. My friend had one ticket left and offered it to me for RM15. Business talks don't come cheap so I thought it was a great deal so I took it.
People were gathering outside the ballroom and they all seem to know each other. My friend suddenly gave a stranger a friendly gesture. Everyone was doing it. I was like,
"Herl, you better not ask me to join a cult or I'll KILL YOU"
Before the event started, everything was kept a secret. Even my friend was insistent.
Upon entering the ballroom, there was music playing and people started being all cheered up. It seemed to me like it was some gathering of a club. The atmosphere reminds me when I was a direct selling salesman nearly three years ago. To increase our motivation, the boss would cheer us all up in the morning and the entire office is filled with loud music.
Within minutes the speaker started speaking, I knew something was wrong. It wasn't a talk on business strategies or any of those useful knowledge I expected. Instead it was a bait to attract new recruits into another MLM business. Sneaky asses!
For a whole two hour, the talented speaker was spamming people's heads with hopes, dreams, and ridiculous stories to motivate potential recruits without mentioning the business marketing plan at all.
"What if you can reach your dreams... bullshit... bullshit... bullshit... bullshit... parking lot that could fit 8 cars... bullshit... bullshit... bullshit... bullshit..."
It was all a promotional stint. One that required me to pay to listen. The worst money I've ever spent! Sorry, Herl. I'm don't blame you at all. Probably you thought I was interested but after all that, I'm still not. I guess you realize that throughout the night.
MLM isn't bad. It's a great way to make lots of money for certain people who has high confidence, don't mind getting avoided by other people, and have excellent social skills. Probably the reason my friend picked me *cough* *cough*. It has it's downsides though. Having the risk of losing your friends if something goes wrong. What if you decided to quit but your downlines still demands your help. Wouldn't that cause an argument?
What my friend didn't know about me is that I'm a loner as well. It takes a little effort for people to break my ice. It's a trauma I picked off after being that salesman. Any friend of mine sees a quality that others don't. I can become talkative, cheerful and more opinionated. But I'm more complicated than you think. Confusing to the point of being annoying.
