10 For ‘10

For most people, New Year’s resolutions are nothing but cock and bull. Let’s face it, most people barely achieve any of them and could only stand to see disappointment at the end of the year. Some even forget their resolutions completely! In my case, 2009 was the first year I decided to make resolutions and I’m proud to say I achieved a 70% success rate! See how I did. I only make resolutions if I’m sure I am committed to them. Here are my 10 resolutions for 2010:

Get Over Perfectionism. A number one priority, being a perfectionist is not easy! Once, I really didn’t like how a certain assignment turned out that I didn’t submit it at all! The thing about this is that it even gets in the way of my rational thinking sometimes. I should’ve handed in those assignments and still be able to get marked than getting none at all. A lot of time spent on the little things that I lose grasp of the bigger picture. Those who thinks this is a gift can go to hell!

Try Something New Every Week. Never having to do something before is a bad reason not to do it. I’ve come up with some - cycling around Putrajaya, go on an overnight hiking trip, jump on a bus to anywhere or shop around Tesco naked and pretend I don’t know what the problem is.

Go Green. Since China fucked Copenhagen and Obama practically did NOTHING (Come on, he is only the MOST POWERFUL MAN ON EARTH!) plus the legendary Al Gore made a fool of himself, I guess 2009 wasn’t the best year for environmentalist. I’m not going for the extremes (I still need plastic bags for my trash) but I will bring a reusable bag every time I go shopping, less paper consumption, and some other minor stuff. I think should start playing my part on the environment just in case the Earth has plans of sending us all down under.

Saying No. I am accustomed to helping people a lot and I can honestly say not all of those people are grateful. Some just find me when they need me. Sometimes, even when I have so much to do, I am willing to abandoned all of it just so I can make someone happy! So I am going to learn how to politely say ‘No’.

Learn To Draw. I know right? I’m studying art and design and yet I stink in the drawing department. No wonder why I stick on doing everything on-screen. I think I am capable of it if I just find the time to practice and I will.

Less Daydreaming. More Realism. I’m rather sceptical on this one because my daydreaming sessions are a form of inspiration and motivation. Unfortunately, most of them never see the light of day. I’m not saying I’ll stop because I’ve been doing it for ages and stopping is kind of like suffocating my life stream. I will, however, try to keep the activity to a minimum.

Gain Weight. I’m not too happy about how I look. I’m too lean and it’s hard to find a smaller ‘M’ sized shirt when the ‘S’ is too small. I’m in the middle of those two!

Eliminate My Other Self. This is going to be a slow process since a lot of people outside my social life know me as um, oh yes, I’m not telling…yet. Hopefully by the end of the year, everyone around me will know me by my real name.

Get Off My Computer Screen and Spend More Time Offline. The thing about being a multimedia designer this day and age is that 90% of the work is done on the computer. Throw the internet (especially social networking) into the bandwagon and you got yourselves an addiction. I’m so attached to my computer all the time it has made me somewhat a bum. I’m really going to do something about it this year.

Finally, Help Others Around Me Realise Their True Potential. I want to be able to inspire those around me. To make them see their true abilities and help them uncover their strengths and weaknesses. I know this sounds very ambitious which is why it’s at the bottom of my list but it’s something I want to do. My method of doing this on the other hand will vary. Sometimes, telling people they are good at something doesn’t always work. Sometimes, showing off and creating envy is the right way to go.
