When Plans Don’t Materialize

There’s that one point when we have so much to do that even keeping a list is exhausting. In my case right now, there’s that point…and a series of non-priority plans that keeps hopping in and out of my mind since August; taking brain-space for things that really matter – like my school assignments! In order to free up that space and time, I’ve removed all my online ads, temporary shut down a few blogs, barred calls from some assholes, and not taking anymore design jobs…for now. I knew it was right to have a different name when I decided to go freelancing more than a year ago – so I can take a  break!

Talk about plans. There are some I personally call daydreamers because: one, you get too excited about it (some even spread the news a little too soon) – two, you never thought it through – three, let’s just face it, you know it’s never going to happen yet you constantly think about it.

One crazy example was a couple of months ago (August again) when my Korean friend Hah-Rihn and I talked about me visiting her at the end of the year. We shook on it and of course, since then I’ve been working my ass out to earn enough so I could afford Seoul. I mean, its vacation, I’m not going to suck out my parents’ dollars for an expensive trip. What unearthly child does that? Now, the reason I called this one a daydreamer is because I’m starting to think that the money I have could be put to better use.

Talk about spreading the word. There’s this guy in my class who used to talk proudly about how he’ll be going to United States soon to study animation and shit. As if the whole class wasn’t enough, he repeatedly announce the news in Facebook!

“San Francisco Academy of the Arts…here I come!”

“I will miss you all. I’ll be flying to US march!”

“They are so going to love me in SF”

“I hope the summer there will not be as hot as Malaysia”

“Going to Kinokuniya to get books for SF Arts”

It’s been more than a year and you’re still here! Ain’t that embarrassing? Thankfully in my Korean Getaway case, only me and Ha-Rihn knew it. I don’t like blabbering daydreamers.

So, there you go, a lesson worth learning. Never spread plans or news in a want-to-get-everyone-jealous manor because if they don’t materialize, that mouth of your goes right to your ass.
